    Melatonin is secreted by the pineal gland during the night. Its secretion decreases drastically with age.

    Melatonin researchers have yet to determine the optimal dosages for its various uses and indications. Individual needs also vary due to metabolic differences.
    Melatonin helps reduce the time required to fall asleep, and an appropriate dose of 1 mg taken close to bedtime also
    helps alleviate the subjective feeling of jet lag, with a minimum intake of 0.5 mg taken close to bedtime on the first day of travel and for a few days after arrival at the destination.
